Reiki

Reiki, pronounced 'ray-key', is a Japanese word meaning universal life energy. It is also a name given to a system of natural healing for body, mind and spirit. . Reiki energy flows through the hands to wherever it is needed in the body. It is completely safe.

Mikao Usui, was a Japanese man who lived in the late 1800's and died in 1926. As a Christian Minister, he was challenged by his students about his faith in the reality of a healing force. It became his personal quest to be able to source this power as a help to mankind. Through years of scholarship, studying sacred scriptures of Christian and Buddhist origins, as well as living a life of personal prayer and meditation, Mikao Usui experienced a spiritual awakening or spiritual transmission that resulted in the creation of the system of healing known as Usui Shiki Ryoho which has been passed down through a direct lineage from master to pupil.

I am a practitioner with 2nd degree Usui Shiki Ryoho which is the most traditional form of Reiki. Human beings are energy systems. If we accept this premise, then life energy is the essential and most basic element of the human energy system. We suffer when we don't have enough energy to carry out our life functions or when we, as energy systems, are out of balance. The effect of receiving a Reiki treatment is that our supply of life energy is increased and we return to balance. In this state of balance and renewed energy our bodies and minds can heal

A Reiki treatment consists of laying my hands on or more usually over the client’s body and allowing the energy of life to flow through to the person being treated. The client remains fully clothed at all times. A session of Reiki usually lasts for upwards of an hour. Receiving Reiki is a very simple process, but can produce quite profound effects. The session begins by lying down on a treatment couch, closing your eyes and listening to gentle, soothing music, which helps to produce a state of deep relaxation. Then I will gently rest my hands over you, non-intrusively, in a series of positions from the crown of the head to the feet. Each hand position is held for a few minutes, and during this time healing energy will flow into you, balancing your energy system, releasing stress, soothing pain, and promoting your body’s natural ability to heal itself. As the energy flows, many people will feel warmth, or heat, or tingling. It is usually a very relaxing experience: some people fall asleep..

Whilst Reiki is very effective, it is not a miracle cure, and the effects of Reiki treatments build up cumulatively. To experience the full benefit of Reiki I would recommend up to a maximum of four to six full healing sessions, this number of sessions are usually enough to sort out stress, tension, anxiety, sleeplessness and emotional problems; physical stuff can take a little longer, but not always. Reiki generally produces long-term beneficial changes, so you do not need to keep coming back for endless Reiki sessions. However, once you have felt how wonderful it feels, you may want to keep coming back and back!

No matter what your particular complaint, the general effect of Reiki treatments seems to be to make you feel more laid back, more calm, less stressed and more able to cope. It seems to boost energy levels, raise spirits, and make you feel more positive about things. Stressful situations seem to wash over you. Reiki brings things back into balance.
